FAQ

When will the McDonald Family Y open?

The McDonald Family YMCA will open on July 15. Book a tour and experience your new centre of community. We can’t wait to welcome you to your new Y.

Can I tour The McDonald Family YMCA before it opens?

You can book a tour and visit the centre in person. A virtual tour is also available to view.

Why is the centre named The McDonald Family YMCA?

Long-time YMCA supporters Steve and Jenifer McDonald have collectively donated a total of $5M to our Strong Start, Great Future Capital Campaign to build new YMCAs across the GTA. This new Centre of Community is named in honour of their commitment to bringing essential services and a sense of community to more people in more neighbourhoods.

What’s included in a YMCA membership?

Your membership includes access to the aquatics centre, strength and conditioning equipment, unlimited group fitness classes, rec sports in the gym at all 12 YMCA locations across the GTA. Additional fees apply for children’s registered programs, personal training sessions and league sports.

How much does it cost to join the Y?

Membership pricing can be found here. When you join before we open on July 15, you become a Founding Member of The McDonald Family YMCA. As a Founding Member you'll also get:

  1. A commemorative founding member gift
  2. No join fee ($85 savings)
  3. Access to all 12 health and fitness centres
  4. Special savings to share with your family and friends

  6. Early registration for children's fall programs*

*Based on availability.

What kinds of group fitness classes will you offer?

The McDonald Y fitness schedule will be released before the centre opens. Fitness classes differ in style and intensity, but they are all created to be accessible and inclusive. Class options range from high-intensity TotalFit and Bootcamp to strength-building MuscleFit and Yoga for flexibility. Our program development team regularly introduces new classes.

What kinds of children’s programs will you offer?

All our health and fitness centres offer a variety of sports and learning programs for children and youth. Learn about programs like basketball, swim lessons, soccer, and karate.

Are there other YMCA locations nearby? I’d like to start my wellness journey now.

Yes! We have 11 other locations across the GTA, including three centres less than four kilometres from The McDonald Family Y. A YMCA membership gives you access to all locations. Visit the Find a Y page to locate the closest Y and get your membership through the My Y portal.

Will you offer day camp this summer?

Although we won't be offering day camp at the McDonald Family Y this summer, we will in 2026. There are a number of locations very close to the centre offering day camp. Visit the Y Guide for more information and to sign up.

What will be the hours of operation?

The McDonald Family YMCA will be open every day of the year, from 6 am to 10 pm on weekdays, 7 am to 10 pm on weekends, and 8 am to 4 pm on holidays.

I have a few more questions. Can I speak to someone at the Y?

Absolutely. You can reach our customer service team by sending a note on our Contact Us page or calling 416-928-9622 or 1-800-223-8024 Monday to Friday from 9 am to 8 pm. Chat is also available on our website.

Are my membership fees donations?

No. Membership fees cover the cost of your access to our amenities, drop-in sports and rec programs, and group fitness classes.

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity and many of our members make donations to support our work. These donations go towards our programs — from youth shelters to camp, leadership development, and more — and they help us bring those programs to more people by funding new YMCAs in new neighbourhoods. If you choose to give to the Y, you will receive a charitable tax receipt for your donation, but not for your membership fees.

Did You Know? Your YMCA is a Charity

The Y is a charity and community is at the core of everything we do.

To make sure no one gets left behind, we provide financial assistance to those who can’t afford to participate. When you add a donation to your membership, you’re helping people join sports teams, camp, swim lessons, and more programs they otherwise couldn’t afford.
