Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross Combo and Basic First Aid with CPR-C & AED (41 hr): This combined course completes the Bronze-level certification required to pursue National Lifeguard. Candidates develop a strong understanding of lifesaving principles and build the skills needed to respond effectively to aquatic emergencies. The Bronze Medallion portion focuses on judgment, knowledge, and fitness, including recognition and rescue of distressed and drowning victims, while also incorporating a Basic First Aid certification.
The Bronze Cross portion begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding, preparing candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their rescue skills, apply principles of active surveillance, and develop teamwork and communication skills essential for preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies.
Prerequisites: 13 years of age by the last day of the course or Bronze Star certification (need not be current).
Required materials: Canadian Lifesaving Manual (available as an add-on during registration).

Physical Requirements: 1a. Swim 25 m or yd. each of: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke.1b. Swim 25 m or yd. each of: head-up front crawl, head-up breaststroke.1c. Swim 25 m or yd. each of: whip kick, eggbeater, scissor kick or inverted scissor kick.2. Demonstrate recovery of an unconscious victim from deep water: surface and carry victim to a point of safety 5 m distant.3. Enter the water and swim head-up 25 m or yd. to contact a passive victim or manikin located at the surface and carry 25 m or yd.4. Endurance challenge: Swim 400 m within 12 minutes (400 yd. within 11 minutes).5. Surface dives and underwater swims:a. Demonstrate a head-first surface dive (maximum depth 2 m) and swim underwater 10 m.b. Demonstrate a foot-first surface dive (maximum depth 2 m) and swim underwater 10 m.6. Spinal injury management: Respond to a breathing or non-breathing suspected spinal-injured victim located in shallow water or on land.7. Object recovery and transport: Demonstrate anaerobic fitness and strength for an object recovery: starting in the water, swim 15 m and surface dive to recover a 4.5 kg (10 lb.) object; surface and carry the object 5 m – all within 60 seconds.8. Rescue drill: Starting in the water, swim head-up to recover a submerged manikin or victim located 20 m away; surface and carry the manikin or victim 20 m to starting point – all within 120 seconds.9. Endurance challenge: Swim 400 m within 11 minutes (400 yd. in 9:40 minutes).

The Lifesaving Society Ontario (the """"Society"""") requires that the candidates legal name must appear on all certifications it issues. Candidates may also provide a preferred name, which may be displayed on the certification if requested; however, it does not replace the legal name.
Important: The last day of this course includes the exam and feedback session, which may extend slightly past the scheduled end time.
